How to keep your pet healthy during the Holidays!

Everyone knows its hard enough to keep your pet from begging at the dinner table. It gets pretty much impossible to control when you have a dozen of your family and friends at your house for Thanksgiving dinner, giving your cute little dog just one little treat. Firstly, tell your guests that table scraps are off limits. Thats really all that you can do when you have guests. At home make sure to enforce the “no table scraps” policy, and have healthy treats on hand for your pet so that you aren’t tempted to give your pet people food. Also, keeping your pet outside or in the garage during family meals would really eliminate the temptation for both parties. Just by following these easy tips you will be keeping your pet healthy enough to be around for next year’s holidays!

Its that time of year! Its time to travel to Grandma’s house, take the trek to the in-laws house…Have you thought about where your pet is going to be during all of the holiday craziness?? If you need your pet to be taken care of while you are away, I offer two easy, cheap options! I can (A) check in on your pet twice daily to provide walks and ensure that they are receiving attention and food, or I can (B) take care of your pet from my own home! I have a spacious front and back yard, and I also have kennels available. I offer negotiable rates, and I have great availability! Call or comment me for further information! The holidays get hectic fast, so make sure you have your pets taken care of!

I don’t know about you guys, but now that I have a lovely front yard with an actual lawn, I hate seeing poop on it!!!! Shocker!! I have two dogs that I walk daily, and no matter what, carrying a bag to pick up their poop is pretty much as important as their leash. I know its not fun, its definately not “cool,” but it is the law!! Carry those bags with pride, and maybe some day I won’t be cleaning up after other pets messes on my front lawn.

Ok, so if you went to the walk, you probably already know that I now have a 4 month old puppy! We named him Baxter, and he was abandoned (randomly? I doubt it) at Davis Park on the morning of the health walk. We are now puppy proofing the house, and that is about as fun as it sounds! But this is a very important part of having a puppy- removing the opportunity for problem behavior. Having a few trusty chew toys on hand to replace a non-approved item is a must. It doesn’t do to just remove the item from the pets reach, its important that you provide an approved item for your pet to chew on. Positive reinforcement at its finest!!

Thanks to everyone who dressed up their dogs. Everyone looked great and even some owners got involved by dressing up too, which was awesome! What a great competition!!!

The pound is overcrowded, and people are still going to a breeder to get their pet (s)?? In times like these, with foreclosure pets being such an issue, its important to keep our eyes on what is important. Every time you adopt a pet, you are literally saving its life. Can you think of a better gift? The promise of a warm home, some long overdue attention, and healthy food…these things aren’t outrageous demands or needs. Lets see what we can do as a community to ensure that these pets are being adopted, and not put down simply because they couldn’t find an owner fast enough. The only way to guarantee that this happens is to take part in the cause, volunteer, tell your friends and family that are looking for pets to adopt, etc. Word of mouth is something that should never be underestimated. Now get out there, and get involved, and save a pets life!

Alright guys! There is a little puppy name Beau, he is not even six months old…and he has a grade 6 heart murmur. And by six, I mean grade 6 out of 6. Keep in mind, Beau is just a Pomeranian, a Pomeranian with a serious heart condition. It is hard enough to imagine any pet going through something like this, especially so small and so very young. His owners have taken him to the best- he’s been seen at UCDavis, and now unless he gets surgery in the next few months, he won’t make it. He needs the equivalent of an angioplasty, and those costs puppies about $3,000. So, why don’t we walk for a little puppies health? I’m ready, are you?

***If you donate at the Dog Walk for Health this upcoming October 26th, all of the proceeds will be directly given to Beau’s family for the surgery.

Come on guys! You brush yours, right? Well, start early when your pet is young, and you can save yourself some serious vet bills! Not to mention that anesthesia can have harmful side affects, just like it does for people! There are doggie tooth brushes and doggie toothpaste (make sure you ONLY use the kind that is intended for animals!PLEASE!) in any pet store or vet hospital! If you need help trying to get your pet to even let them near your mouth, message me! I can help!
